Every Youth Deserves a Trained Leader

As many of our Scout families are finding themselves at home in the evenings with some extra time, this is a great opportunity to go in and update our Training records.  If you have not yet taken the online training for your specific volunteer position, then this would be a great opportunity.  Additionally, many of our Youth Protection certifications are nearing expiration or have already expired.  If you fall into this category, then renewing that training now is a great idea!  If you are unsure of your status with any of this, please reach out to your Unit Leader or District Training Chair, and they will be able to help you.  We would like to clean up all of our current training records now and get everything complete that we can before the Fall, so that we can really concentrate on the incoming new leaders then.

All District Training Chairs should be planning to attend the Virtual Council Training Meeting on April 28th at 6:30 PM.

Wood Badge is coming!  If you have not yet signed up, go ahead and register today.  You don’t want to miss this opportunity.  Wood Badge is the premier adult leadership training program within the Boy Scouts of America.  Local experts agree that Wood Badge is one of the top experiences that an adult can have in the BSA – don’t miss this!  Register here:  https://www.mtcbsa.org/TrainingCourses/Wood-Badge

Council Events Refund Policy

This policy is applicable to all activities where the Middle Tennessee Council collects a fee or a deposit. Example events include: Summer Camp at Boxwell, Cub Scout Day Camps, Council Camporees and Cub Family Camp at Boxwell. Our council refund policy states, “If an activity is cancelled or postponed by our council or a district and the participant cannot attend on the alternate date, the full fee will be refunded.”

Scouting at Home

Scouting can take place anywhere – even in the comfort of your home!

Here you will find a resource hub for parents and leaders to help support Scouting at home, with stay-at-home educational activities for any Scout rank, tips for continuing to work on advancements and kid-friendly content that connects Scouting with their daily lives. We will continue to add new content and resources to this hub regularly.

Our goal is to make it easier to deliver the Scouting program by making plans more accessible to Leaders and those who can help Leaders like our parents.

2020 Memorial Day Flag Placement

May 23, 2020

The Memorial Day Flag Placement is scheduled to take place at local National Cemeteries across the mid-state on May 23rd.  This is truly one of the most moving experiences in which a Scout can participate, along with their family, so please make plans to take part. Our U.S. soldiers that have given their lives so that we may enjoy our freedoms must be remembered, and the Middle Tennessee Council is proud to help make that happen each year. We will place a U.S. flag on the grave of every marker across the cemeteries, and recognize the sacrifice each of these men and women made for our country. For more information and to register, please click here.

Centennial Spring Camporees

The Middle Tennessee Council has decided to cancel the 100-year anniversary camp out at Boxwell Reservation that was scheduled for May 1-3. We want to thank all our volunteers who helped plan the event and for the hard work they put into all three of these unique Camporees. All refunds for these camp outs (Camp Arrowhead, Narrows of the Harpeth, Boxwell Reservation and any Staff Members) are available by contacting Crystal Mayfield at camping@mtcbsa.org. If you would like to transfer your funds to your summer camp balance, please let us know. Again, thank you so much for all that you do in our Scouting communities and for our youth. Stay safe and healthy in these times of uncertainty.

100 Years Celebration - Monthly Themes

You may be asking how can my unit participate in the 100th Anniversary celebration of the Middle Tennessee Council? A special program has been developed to allow unit programing to focus on the 12 points of the Scout Law.

Units are encouraged to set aside time to focus on each point of the Scout Law. This can be done in the Dens, Packs, Patrols, Troops, Crews, or Ships. The Scouts decide how they will accomplish each point, and the unit will recognize them with the patch of the point they complete. This can be completed in any order; we just want every Scout to earn all 12 points of the Scout Law Patch Set. Scouts can complete specific requirements for each patch anytime between January 2020 and May 2021 and earn all 12! This program is determined by the leadership in the unit and can be awarded at any time.
